We’ve had a great time in Kalibo so far - below some highlights from the last few days…

A Calm Morning and ATV Ride by the River

Friday started off slow and easy. Mornings here in the Philippines starts early as the temperature is pleasant around sunrise time (5-6 am) and they feel peaceful and unhurried. We had a relaxed breakfast, enjoying the simple and laid-back pace of life.

By noon, the girls and I went ATV / Quad-bike tour by the Kalibo river only 5 min walk from our house. It was pretty fun!

Good Friday Procession and Parade

Later in the afternoon, we made our way to Kalibo’s main square and church for the Good Friday events. Arriving by tricycle, we joined thousands of others in the heart of the town to observe this special day.

The Good Friday procession is one of Kalibo’s most important traditions, alongside the Ati-Atihan Festival. The streets came alive with colorful floats and participants walked through the streets, carrying religious icons and statues that symbolized the Passion of Christ. The atmosphere is deeply spiritual, with prayers filling the air. It is highlighting the community’s strong faith.

The last time we attended, Zara was only 4 and Jasmine was a 6 month old baby, so it was fun to experience it again 11 years later.

A Day at the Spa

Yesterday was all about rest and relaxation. Kalibo has lots of spas and salons, so we decided to treat ourselves. Melanie and I had relaxing full-body massages, while Zara and Jasmine got their nails done. Jasmine even got a stylish new perm!

In the late afternoon, Melanie meet up with an old classmate.

Heading to Romblon Island

Today, we’re off to our next destination, very early morning, to catch the boat from Caticlan to the Romblon Islands. We’re excited to see exploring these islands that are still out of the tourist radar and beaten tracks.
